Coming out of spring practices, BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill had questions about the depth at the Cougars’ cornerback unit. Beasley could be another player to provide competitive depth to a relatively inexperienced group entering the 2025 season.
Like many transfers BYU identifies out of the Transfer Portal, Beasley has a previous history with the staff.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back has connections to BYU cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford. Gilford, who has strong ties to the Southern California area, recruited the Inglewood, California native out of high school. Beasley reported an offer from BYU in 2019.

Coming out of St. John Bosco in California, Tayvion Beasley began his college football career in 2022 at Jackson State under Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. He then followed Coach Prime to Colorado in the winter of 2023, before leaving the Buffs after a semester and landing at San Diego State.
Beasley spent the past two years on Montezuma Mesa. He redshirted in 2023, then last season, he played cornerback for the Aztecs in five games and 12 games overall, with most of his appearances occurring on special teams.
Beasley is the sixth transfer BYU has received a commitment from in the spring transfer portal window. He joins Bear Bachmeier (QB, Stanford), Tiger Bachmeier (WR, Stanford), Keayen Nead (TE, New Mexico), Justin Kirkland (DT, Oklahoma State), and Ethan Wood (TE, New Mexico State).
