SALT LAKE CITY – Bear Bachmeier signing with BYU football out of the Transfer Portal was a welcome addition by offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Bachmeier spent a quarter at Stanford before entering the portal and landing at BYU.
It’s a noteworthy addition as it gives BYU a heralded signal-caller, who garnered a lot of interest coming out of Murrieta Valley High School in California.
Bear Bachmeier joins BYU football as a freshman quarterback
Roderick discussed the addition of BYU’s newest quarterback with Jeremiah Jensen and Alex Jensen on the KSL Sports Zone’s “JJ & Alex.”
“He’s a very good football player. We really wanted him out of high school, and he was a national recruit. I mean, he had Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oregon, everybody. He pretty much could have gone anywhere he wanted, and he chose to go to Stanford, so we missed out,” Roderick said on the KSL Sports Zone. “Then it turns out, this spring, we got a second chance at him, and we got him. We’re super excited to have him.”
Bachmeier was a four-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He was the 28th-ranked quarterback nationally in the class of 2025.
Bachmeier passed for 6,810 yards and 59 touchdowns through the air as the starter at Murrieta Valley High the past three seasons. On the ground, he rushed for 1,724 yards in his prep career with another 30 touchdowns using his feet.
Bachmeier joins his older brother, Tiger Bachmeier, at BYU. The two will be part of the BYU program beginning this summer.
Aaron Roderick gives a bold prediction for Bachmeier
Roderick is excited for the potential of both players in his offense, but he had a rare bold prediction for his newest quarterback.
“He’s a very good football player, a super athlete, also highly intelligent, like his brother, and a very accurate passer,” Roderick added on Bear Bachmeier. “I don’t usually make bold predictions, but I think he’s going to be a great player at BYU.”
