PROVO, Utah – BYU football is gearing up for a busy weekend of official visitors.
The group of visitors, which includes five-star uncommitted QB Ryder Lyons, got even bigger on Tuesday.
Syracuse Orange commit Jaxson Gates, a three-star cornerback from La Verne, California, announced he will be taking an official visit to Provo this upcoming weekend.

“I will be at BYU this weekend for my official visit,” exclaimed Gates on X.
Jaxson Gates to visit BYU football
Gates was reportedly going to visit Provo earlier this month, but that didn’t materialize. He’s taken official visits recently to Michigan State, Utah, and Syracuse last week, to which he is currently committed.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect has been committed to the Orange since November 24, 2024.
BYU jumped into the picture for Gates last month, extending a formal offer.
Gates fits the profile of prospects BYU’s cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford covets in his room.
Gates has elite speed
The multi-sport athlete from Damien High School took on track and field this year and has been a star.
In the Baseline League Championships in April, Gates ran an eye-popping time of 10.39 in the 100 meters.

Gates finished second in Division III of the CIF Southern Section with a run of 10.44.
On the gridiron, Gates had 30 tackles and six pass deflections last season for Damien.
Gates is rated as the 73rd cornerback prospect in the country by the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2026.
Last week, BYU football picked up three commitments from recruits who were part of official visits in Provo.
BYU currently has 12 commitments in its class of 2026.
