Utah Jazz Win 10th Straight, Own NBA’s Best Record

Jan 27, 2021, 9:16 PM | Updated: 10:21 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz defeated the Dallas Mavericks for their 10th consecutive victory and now own the best record in the NBA.

The Jazz hosted the Mavericks at Vivint Arena on Wednesday, January 27.

Even without Donovan Mitchell and Derrick Favors in the lineup, Utah cruised to a 116-104 win over Dallas.

The Jazz improved to a league-best 14-4 record with the victory.

After Wednesday night’s games, the Philadelphia 76ers own an Eastern Conference-best 13-6 record and the Los Angeles Lakers are 0.5 games behind the Jazz with a 14-5 record.

Despite missing two key pieces of their rotation, the Jazz made the win look relatively easy.

From the jump ball, Utah had control of the game. At the end of the first quarter, the Jazz held a 32-19 lead.

The Mavericks outscored the Jazz by 10 points in the fourth quarter but Utah’s largest lead of 25 points was too much to overcome.

Winning Streak Extended

The win was a milestone in multiple ways. Not only was it Utah’s 10th win in a row but it came in Quin Snyder’s 500th game as head coach of the Jazz.

The last time the Jazz fell was against the New York Knicks on January 6.

The 10-game winning streak is Utah’s longest stretch without a loss since the team’s 10-game streak from December 26, 2019-January 14, 2020.

Three-Headed Monster

Without Mitchell’s scoring, the Jazz offense was carried by the trio of Rudy Gobert, Jordan Clarkson, and Joe Ingles.

Gobert dominated the game from start to finish. The 2019-20 NBA All-Star was a force on both ends of the court and the Mavericks didn’t have an answer. Gobert finished the contest with a massive stat line of 29 points, 20 rebounds, one assist, three steals, and three blocks.

It was the third 20-20 game of Gobert’s career. The big man’s boards were key vital to Utah outrebounded Dallas, 50-36.

Clarkson torched the Mavs for 22 points in the first half and ended with a game-high 31 points.

Ingles replaced Mitchell in the starting lineup and made the most of the opportunity. The Jazz forward buried seven three-pointers on his way to 21 points. He added eight rebounds and four assists.

Luka DončiΔ‡ led the Mavericks with 30 points.

Up Next

Utah’s next game is the second of a back-to-back with Dallas.

The Jazz will host the Mavericks again on Friday, January 29 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN and 97.5 FM.
