SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Welcome to KSL Sports Game Night as the Utah Jazz host the Dallas Mavericks on the first game of a two-game series.

The Jazz are riding a league-best nine-game winning streak after knocking off the New York Knicks last night in Salt Lake City.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have lost five of their last seven games, including their last two contests at home before traveling to face the Jazz.

Follow this page throughout the night for quotes from the coaches’ pregame, starting lineups, and highlights and thoughts throughout the game.

Pregame Availability

The Utah Jazz will be without Donovan Mitchell who suffered concussion-like symptoms this morning after taking a shot to the head last night against the Knicks.

Quin Snyder said the team will start Joe Ingles in Mitchell’s absence.

“Donovan is the catalyst for lots of things that we do,” Snyder said. It impacts our depth as well. But I don’t think there’s any magic involved, everybody’s got to be aggressive still. We need to play the same way, we just don’t have a really, really good player out there.”

Derrick Favors will also miss the game as he deals with lower back soreness.

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said he expected the Jazz to be well equipped to handle the loss of Mitchell.

“This is one of the most tied together teams with a very efficient, high functioning system,” Carlisle said. “This is the kind of NBA team that can absorb the loss of a player like Mitchell, particularly on a one-game basis and still play at a high level.”

Starting Lineups

First Quarter

The Jazz own a lead at the first time after back to back dunks from Rudy Gobert.

Jazz lead Mavericks 13-8 with 7:19 left in the first quarter. Gobert leads all scorers with 6.

Dallas’ perimeter defense has been porous all season, so if the Jazz move the ball they out to be able to find seems and get to the rim.

The Mavericks defense is so susceptible to drive and kick opportunities for the Jazz. They can’t stay in front of anyone, then they have to help and can’t recover on closeouts.

With 2:56 left in the first quarter, the Jazz lead the Mavs 25-17.

The Jazz offense is still firing on all cylinders even without Donovan Mitchell.

Jazz shooting 10-18 from the floor and 3-5 from deep.

Quin Snyder truly waited to see when Luka Doncic was coming out before making any substitutions with Gobert and O’Neale. Oni and Morgan getting the extra run tonight.

Second Quarter

The Jazz zone has really been good against the Mavericks bench.

Also worth noting the Mavericks bench has a bunch of payers who haven’t been on the floor for about three weeks so that might also deserve some of the credit for them playing so poorly.

Jordan Clarkson is playing elite basketball right now. Obviously he’s redlining on offense and putting a ton of pressure on the Mavericks defense, but his active hands on the defensive end have been great, too. He’s got 20 points with 6:42 left in the second quarter.

My theory on Clarkson is that he plays so hard, that the first 25 minutes you get from him are great. Any minutes you have to play him after that he starts to fall off because he runs out of gas.

He’s got 17 first-half minutes tonight, we’ll see if my theory holds true.

Rudy Gobert already has an 20-11 double-double in the first half. He’s been very good the last two nights.

The Jazz shoot 10-20 from the three-point line, thanks to five makes from Joe Ingles and lead 69-48 at the half.

Third Quarter

Dallas has no answer for Joe Ingles who is up to 21 points and 6 assists filling in for Donovan Mitchell.

Jazz on the verge of their 10th straight win and own an 89-67 lead with 5:24 left in the third quarter.

Clarkson is up to 24 points, Gobert has 25 and 14.

The Jazz are just toying with Dallas now. Gobert can score anytime he wants in the paint, which is freeing up the Jazz perimeter players to run the floor and take open threes.

Clarkson and Ingles continue to dominate, while Royce O’Neale has thrown down two alley-oop dunks in the quarter.

The Jazz close the third quarter with another seemingly insurmountable lead. They’re up 100-78 with 12 minutes left to play.

Gobert with 29 and 16, only real question is how much the starters play to close this game.

Fourth Quarter

Dallas has put together a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter and have trimmed the Jazz lead to 15.

9:30 left, the Jazz are up 100-85, and are going to need a few more minutes of good play to close this out.

The Mavericks were able to hang around some in the fourth quarter, but a Mike Conley three extends the Jazz lead to 16 with 1:34 left in the game. Rudy Gobert has 29 and 20 for the Jazz, Jordan Clarkson leads all scorers with 31.

The Jazz win their 10th straight and own the best record in the NBA at 14-4.
