HOUSTON, Texas – Utah forward Bojan Bogdanovic buried a three-point shot at the buzzer to lift the Jazz to victory over the Houston Rockets.

Bogdanovic and the Jazz played the Rockets at the Toyota Center on Sunday, February 9.

With the Jazz down 113-111 and 1.6 seconds left on the clock, Utah’s Joe Ingles inbounded the ball to Bogdanovic who caught the ball 28-feet from the basket. He rose above the double-team defense of Houston’s James Harden and P.J. Tucker and let the ball fly. Bogdanovic’s shot sailed through the air and straight through the cylinder, hitting nothing but net.

As the ball fell to the floor, Jazz players rushed towards Bogdanovic and hugged him in celebration.

Bogdanovic’s triple pushed the Jazz ahead of the Rockets on the scoreboard for a final of 114-113.

“First of all, I wasn’t supposed to be on the court on the last play with the way I was playing,” Bogdanovic told Jazz sideline reporter Kristen Kenney after the game. “The coaching staff believes in me and gave me the opportunity to shoot the game-winning shot. I know that I am able to hit those shots and at the end of the game, it’s very important for us.”

“The thing about that game and that group is that they trusted each other,” Jazz head coach Quin Snyder after the game. “It’s a terrific win.”

The Jazz trailed the Rockets at the end of the first, second, and third quarters of the game before rallying in the fourth quarter.

Utah trailed for much of the game and took its first lead of the second half on a Mike Conley layup with 10:17 remaining.

The Jazz stretched their lead to 107-100 with 3:00 left before the Rockets fought back.

Houston’s Robert Covington gave Houston a 110-109 lead on a three-pointer with 28.0 seconds remaining.

Utah’s Donovan Mitchell answered back with a pair of free throws to put the Jazz back on top with 15.6 seconds left.

Before Bogdanovic’s buzzer-beater, Houston’s Tucker connected on a corner three with 1.6 seconds remaining to give Houston a 113-111 advantage.

Bogdanovic buried the triple despite struggling for much of the game. He finished the night with 8 points on 2-7 shooting and 2-5 from behind the arc. Bogdanovic added 2 rebounds and 4 assists in 32 minutes of play.

The Jazz were led in scoring by Jordan Clarkson who came off the bench for 30 points on 12-19 field goals including 3-7 from three. Clarkson added 6 boards and 2 assists in 29 minutes.

Jazz guards Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell combined for 44 points to lead Utah’s starters.

Mitchell poured in 24 points on 9-23 shooting. He added 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

Conley scored 20 points on 8-16 field goals. He added 5 rebounds and 6 assists.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert posted his 40th double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Utah finished the game shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from downtown.

Houston shot 46.3 percent for the game and 35.7 percent from distance.

The Rockets had four players scoring double figures led by Russell Westbrook and James Harden.

Westbrook scored a game-high 39 points. He added 6 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal, and a block in 38 minutes.

Harden recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. He added 1 steal and 2 blocks in 39 minutes on the court.

The Rockets fell to 33-20 on the season and remain fifth in the Western Conference standings. Houston is 1.5 games back from the Jazz.

Utah improved to a record of 34-18 and remain fourth in the Western Conference. The Jazz are 5.5 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Lakers.

The win was Utah’s second in the last nine games with Houston. The Jazz and Rockets are tied 1-1 in the 2019-20 season series.
