NBA Announces Zero COVID-19 Positive Tests In Orlando

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NBA Orlando bubble campus has zero players test positive for COVID-19 based on tests since July 13. The NBA and the NBA Players Association announced that none of the 346 players tested returned positive tests.

“Of the 346 players tested for COVID-19 on the NBA campus since test results were last announced on July 13, zero have returned confirmed positive tests,” The league’s release said.

“In the event that a player on the NBA campus returns a confirmed positive test in the future, he will be isolated until he is cleared for leaving isolation under the rules established by the NBA and the Players Association.”

The NBA began welcoming teams onto the campus on July 7. Players were tested and quarantined for 48 hours before being allowed to move about the bubble.

In total, 22 teams will resume the NBA season beginning July 30 with the Utah Jazz and the New Orleans Pelicans. The first multi-team scrimmages will begin on Wednesday.

The league tests players daily within the NBA bubble in hopes of preventing a large outbreak among its players. Teams began testing players in late June in anticipation of the league’s return. More than two dozen players tested positive during the initial round of testing before teams traveled to Orlando.

Those players who test positive aren’t allowed to return to their teams until they received multiple tests clearing them of the virus. Players who do test positive can return home, or travel to isolated housing until they are cleared.

Earlier this month, Utah Jazz vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey said the Jazz haven’t had any additional positive tests since the team returned to team facilities in late June.
