SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell and a Lakers fan exchanged messages over Twitter after the fan responded to posts between the Utah Jazz guard and Lakers player Kyle Kuzma. The fan called “Milcreek, Utah” boring. Jazz fans weren’t having any of it.

The exchange began Sunday night after the Los Angeles Lakers and former University of Utah forward Kyle Kuzma posted a question asking for recommendations on the best drawing app for his iPad.

Mitchell responded with a light ribbing of Kuzma.

“How bored are you?” he tweeted.

That resulted in a short back-and-forward with a Lakers fan regarding who compared the lifestyle of living in Millcreek, Utah versus living in Los Angeles.

The Lakers fan, who goes by the handle @Desismith24, used the opportunity to do some ribbing of his own.

“Not as bored as you. He lives in Los Angeles. You live in milcreek (sic), UT,” he tweeted.

Several Jazz fans jumped to the defense of both Mitchell and the Millcreek area.

“So if living in Utah is so bad and boring how come so many people from LA are moving here?” tweeted @Bradfromslc.

Others posted photos of the leaves changing color in Millcreek or talking about the traffic and fog in Los Angeles.

Mitchell responded to @Desismith24, reminding him that the two of them were both using the same app at the same time.

More Mitchell & Kuzma

Mitchell and Kuzma’s twitter exchange was far from their first online interaction, where the two regularly include one another in twitter banter. The interactions range anywhere from Mitchell extending birthday wishes to Kuzma, to the two debating the merits of reading e-books.

The two have a long history together, having both entered the league as first round picks from the 2017 NBA draft, Mitchell selected by the Jazz with the 13th pick, and Kuzma by the Lakers with the 27th pick. The pair earned All-Rookie first team honors despite being selected outside of the draft’s top 10 picks.

The buddies also spent time together this summer with the US National Team before Kuzma went down with an ankle injury that prevented him from competing in China. Kuzma has yet to be a full participant in the Lakers preseason activities as he recovers from a stress reaction in his foot. Kuzma was the one young asset the Lakers were rumored to have made untouchable during trade discussions that eventually landed them former New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis.

Their friendship extends beyond social media, as the two have been spotted together at University of Utah events, including the Utah Football team’s season opener last season against Weber State.

Mitchell went as far as to mention Kuzma in his acceptance speech after winning Best Breakthrough Athlete at the 2018 ESPY’s. After telling his young fans to never give up on their dreams, Mitchell referenced Kuzma’s own breakout story saying, “As my man Kuz, you can come out of nowhere and surprise a lot of people.”

The duo won’t be separated long as the Jazz travel to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers in their road opener on October 25. Kuzma is hopeful to return to the team’s lineup in time for the start of the regular season. Kuzma and the Lakers return to Salt Lake to take on the Jazz on December 4, and again in a late season matchup on March 16.

It was not clear if Kuzma found the drawing app he was looking for, but he did respond to Mitchell’s tweet.

“Donny I like to draw,” he said.
