SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz and veteran Jordan Clarkson have reportedly agreed to a contract buyout that will end the guard’s tenure with the team.

ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the news on social media.

“Jordan Clarkson is finalizing a contract buyout with the Utah Jazz, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote. “Clarkson will target contending teams for his new home — with interest from multiple playoff teams already expected.”

Having been traded to Utah in December of 2019, Clarkson, 33, is the longest tenured member of the Jazz, but will become an unrestricted free agent when the buyout is completed.

The guard spent nearly six seasons in Utah, and was an integral part of the team’s success next to Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert under head coach Quin Snyder.

Clarkson averaged 17.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 342 appearances with the Jazz, after beginning his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The guard is the first Jazzman ever to win Sixth Man of the Year, earning the award in 2021 after helping lead the team to the best record in the NBA.

Clarkson ranks fourth all-time in three-pointers made in Utah and eighth in points per 36 minutes.

In addition to his contributions on the floor, Clarkson was active off the court through the JC Cares Foundation, which empowered underserved communities needing assistance with food insecurity or financial hardship as a result of disease.

Clarkson was selected in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards but was redirected to the Lakers on draft night.

The guard had one year and $14.2 million left on his contract.
