SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz released the schedule for the first half of the 2020-21 NBA season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule is being released in two halves to account for potential delays and makeup games through the first half of the season.

The Jazz will open the season on December 23rd, on the road against the Portland Trailblazers. The team will play 36 games through the first half of the 72 game shortened season.

The team will then return to Utah for their home opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Jazz’s first extended road trip will take place between January 3-13, when the team will play 7 games in 10 days. The schedule through that stretch looks like this:

@San Antonio – Jan. 3

@Brooklyn – Jan. 5

@New York – Jan. 6

@Milwaukee – Jan. 8

@Detroit – Jan. 10

@Cleveland – Jan. 12

@Atlanta – Jan. 13

As for Western Conference opponents, Utah will only have one game against the defending NBA champion Lakers, on Feb. 24th, and two games against the Denver Nuggets, on Jan. 17th and Jan. 31st. The Jazz have three games against the Clippers, on New Year’s Day, and then back-to-back on Feb. 17th and 19th.

The full schedule can be seen here.

Each team will play three games against each intraconference opponent featuring either two home games and one road game or one home game and two road games. All five teams from within one division will play all five teams from another intraconference division twice at home and face all five teams in the remaining division twice on the road.

Each team will face all 15 interconference opponents once at home and once on the road.

The NBA season will feature an All-Star break scheduled between March 5-10 separating the two halves of the season.

The final two playoff spots in each conference will be decided via aΒ play-in tournamentΒ between the seventh and tenth seeds. The seventh and eighth will play one game, with the winner earning the seventh spot in the seeding and a matchup with the second-seeded team in the postseason.

The ninth and tenth seeded teams will play one game, with the winner having to face the loser of the seven-eight matchup. The winner of that game will earn the final playoff seed in the conference.
