Jazz Mitchell Named Finalist For Community Assist Award

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell is a finalist for the NBA Cares Community Assist Award presented by Kaiser Permanente. The Utah Jazz guard is one of 10 finalists named by the league on Tuesday.
Mitchell qualified for the year-end Community Assist Award nomination after earning the honor for the 2020 NBA offseason.
The Jazz guard earned the honor due to his charitable work throughout the year, most notably donating $12 million to the Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut where he attended from third to ninth grade.

The donation included the “Mitchell Family Scholarship Fund” which will help make the school more accessible to families in need, and the “Nicole Mitchell Faculty Support Fund” which will provide teachers with better funding in the classroom.
“The seasonlong award honors a player’s continued commitment to positively impact his community through sustained efforts and difference-making work over the course of the season,” according to the NBA.
“The winner will receive the award during a virtual presentation with team, league and Kaiser Permanente officials, and a $25,000 donation from the NBA and Kaiser Permanente will be made on his behalf to an organization of his choosing.”
Past yearly winners include Harrison Barnes, Jaylen Brown, George Hill, Chris Paul, and Dwight Powell.
Former Jazz guard Deron Williams earned the award in 2010 for the month of November while Ricky Rubio was given the award in November of 2017 as a member of the Jazz.
