SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Welcome to KSL Sports Game Night as the Utah Jazz travel to face the Atlanta Hawks on the first stop of a three-game road trip.

The Jazz have won 12 of their last 13 games after beating the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, while the Hawks have won five of their last nine games, with their losses coming to the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers. and Dallas Mavericks.

Late news heading into the game as Hawks star guard Trae Young will miss this game on the second night of a back to back.

Follow this page throughout the night for updates on the pregame quotes, starting lineups, and thoughts and highlights throughout the game.

Pregame Availability

In light of Young’s absence, Jazz coach Quin Snyder said the Jazz shouldn’t expect a less capable Hawks team.

“A team generally for a given game or a couple of games really comes together and recognizes the urgency,” Snyder said “You get a hungry team that plays hard.”

The Hawks trailed by double-digits much of the fourth quarter against the Mavericks but trimmed the lead to just three before ultimately losing 122-116.

Atlanta will also be without the services of De’Andre Hunter who is having a breakout year averaging 17.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Starting Lineups

The Jazz will run with their usual starting lineup.

The Hawks have inserted Rajon Rondo and Cam Reddish int the lineup in place of Young and Hunter.

First Quarter

  • After the Hawks score the first basket of the game, the Jazz answer with a 12-0 run fueled by seven points from Donovan Mitchell and are up 12-2 at the first timeout.
  • This is just going to be a tough game for a shorthanded Hawks team that still doesn’t have a firm identity. Hard to know what they feel like they should expect from themselves.

  • After the hot start the Jazz take their foot off the gas pedal and let the Hawks trim the lead to 6.
  • Jazz could probably be up by close to 20 with a little more focus, but even at 20-11 it doesn’t feel like it will cost them later in the game.
  • After a bad turnover, Mike Conley commits his third foul with just 10 seconds left in the quarter to cap an ugly opening 12 minutes for both teams.

Second Quarter

  • Teams are starting to get really physical with Rudy and he isn’t responding very well. Capela already has 11 rebounds in 11 minutes. Gobert has 4. He just has to play tougher.
  • The Hawks are matching Gobert’s minute with Capela and the two players have both done a nice job defensively on one another.
  • Capela is 2-10 from the floor, Gobert is 2-7.

  • With the pick and roll off the table thanks to Capela’s defense, the Jazz also aren’t getting drive and kick threes, so they have to rely on iso scoring.
  • Luckily between Clarkson and Bogdanovic the two players have combined for 25 points making up more than half of the Jazz points.

Third Quarter

  • The value of Mike Conley on clear display in the third quarter. He comes in and immediately starts running the pick and roll with Gobert leading to a lob, a runner, and then an open three.
  • If Conley keeps doing this the Hawks defense will have to start helping on the pick and roll which will open up the Jazz three-point shooters.

  • The Hawks bench is shooting just 2-13 from the floor, but the starters haven’t been much better. Atlanta as a team is shooting 30 percent from the floor and 22 percent from three.
  • Jazz have quietly wrestled control of this game away in the third quarter and are entering blowout territory. Jazz up 15 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter

  • The Jazz are letting the clock wind down as they advance towards their 13th win in their last 14 games.
  • Jazz lead Atlanta 93-74 with 6:48 left in the game. Jordan Clarkson is up to 20 points off the bench to lead all scorers.

  • Jazz extend the lead to 26 on a Donovan Mitchell jumper and will coast to an easy victory.
  • This game will help the jazz defensive rating.
