ORLANDO, Fla. – The Utah Jazz made a lot of three-pointers but it wasn’t enough in their 134-132 loss to the Denver Nuggets in double overtime.

Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 35 points along with 6 rebounds and 8 assists on 12 of 33 shooting from the field, 5 for 16 from the three-point line and 6 of 7 at the foul line in 47 minutes.

Rudy Gobert added 22 points and 13 rebounds while Mike Conley chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Denver led for most of the second overtime but after trailing by two points and the Nuggets missing their last two free throws, Utah had a chance to tie or win the game but Mitchell missed the half court shot.

End Of Regulation

Utah was trailing 104-100 with 10 seconds remaining. On the inbounds pass for Denver, Joe Ingles forced Michael Porter Jr. to hit the ball out of bounds. When the Jazz got the ball back, Mitchell drilled a three-pointer with 7.1 seconds left to put Utah within one point, 104-103.

After fouling Jerami Grant, the Nuggets forward made just one of his two free throw attempts to stretch the lead to 105-103. Mitchell brought the ball up the court and split Denver defenders and found himself wide open for a layup to tie the game with 0.9 seconds left.

Denver missed the opportunity to complete the comeback when Jamal Murray missed the game-winning three-pointer.

Mitchell Takes Over First OT

In overtime, Denver started on a 6-0 run before Mike Conley responded with an and-one to trail by three. Nikola Jokic extended the lead to five with a jumper. Mitchell ignited in overtime by converting an and-one in the lane to trim Denver’s lead to two points. Jokic converted again on a hook shot over Gobert. Joe Ingles made a huge three-pointer to put the Jazz within one point.

The Jazz got the ball back when Mitchell nailed a big three-pointer that was contested which gave Utah a two-point lead. Rudy Gobert fouled out of the game when he was called for a foul on Jokic. The Nuggets big man made both free throws to tie the game.

With 3.4 seconds left Mitchell made another big jumper to give the Jazz a two-point lead. Nikola Jokic received the ball on the baseline and made the layup but the clock didn’t start. The officials said that 3.1 seconds went off the clock and the Jazz had 0.3 seconds to potentially win the game. Clarkson’s jump shot didn’t fall and the game went to double overtime.

Mitchell scored 8 points in the first overtime for the Jazz while Jokic posted 12 points in the extra period.
