Real Salt Lake Locks Down Road Win Over San Diego FC

SAN DIEGO, California – Diego Luna netted a pair of goals as Real Salt Lake won its fourth game, avenging an earlier loss with a 3-1 win over San Diego FC.
RSL (4-6-0, 12 points) faced expansion San Diego FC (4-4-2, 13 points) at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, April 26.

Luna scored his fourth and fifth goals of the year. Newcomer Sam Junqua found the back of the net for his first goal with the Claret & Cobalt.
First Half
Real Salt Lake’s newest addition, Willy Agada, was available off the bench for head coach Pablo Mastroeni.

RSL earned an early corner, but the San Diego defense turned them away after a series of near chances.
Fifteen minutes in, Real Salt Lake’s Brayan Vera collided with goalkeeper Rafael Cabral, forcing Vera to leave the match after spending several minutes on the turf.

One minute into stoppage time, Diego Luna created a moment for the Claret & Cobalt. Luna stepped in front of a pass and deftly dribbled into range before firing a laser into the top right corner for a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, San Diego earned a penalty kick when Alexandros Katranis held a San Diego player following a corner. Hirving Lozano took advantage, scoring the equalizer right before the end of the half.
Second Half
A second penalty kick came less than ten minutes into the second half when Jeppe Tverskov was whistled for a handball in the box. Luna calmly stepped up and scored his second goal, beating San Diego keeper Carlos Dos Santos low left.

Sam Junqua struck minutes later for the road team. After entering for the injured Vera in the first half, Junqua tracked down a ball above the 18 with forward momentum. He unleashed a powerful shot that beat Dos Santos low for a 3-1 lead.
Real Salt Lake picked up its fourth win in the 3-1 victory.
