Another Late Goal Devastates Real Salt Lake In Road Draw With Austin FC

SALT LAKE CITY – Recently acquired William Agada opened his Real Salt Lake account, but it wasn’t enough as Austin FC scored a stoppage-time goal to earn a 1-1 draw.
Real Salt Lake (4-9-3, 15 points) was in Texas to take on Austin FC (5-6-5, 20 points) at Q2 Stadium on Wednesday, May 28.

Agada’s first RSL goal came in the 67th minute.
Diego Rubio netted the equalizer off an assist from Zan Kolmanic in the 93rd minute.
First Half
The match’s start was delayed due to lightning in the area, pushing kickoff back nearly an hour.

Austin earned the first corner of the match, but came up empty on the set piece.
The first 15 minutes unfolded harmlessly for both sides. Eight fouls during the stretch showed the physicality of the match.
RSL’s defense allowed a great build in the 22nd minute. A beautiful endline centering pass came up empty when the header attempt careened off the crossbar.
Both sides had their chances, but the goal-starved attacks of Austin and Real Salt Lake couldn’t get on the scoreboard.

Both teams attempted one shot one goal, while RSL was credited with six shots against four shots for Austin FC.
Second Half
Real Salt Lake went to its bench three times in the early minutes of the second 45.

After a relatively quiet first 20 minutes, the Claret & Cobalt took advantage of a yellow card for Austin.
Diego Luna stepped up to a free kick and lofted a majestic, looping pass into the box. William Agada tracked the loose ball down and headed it into the bottom left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

It was Agada’s first goal with the team.
Zavier Gozo earned RSL’s first yellow when he tripped an opponent in the offensive end. Rafael Cabral punched the free kick away, giving Austin a corner in the 76th minute.
Real Salt Lake remained on the defensive for several minutes as Austin continued to press forward.
Austin had a series of chances in the closes minutes and six minutes of stoppage time but were held scoreless until the 93rd minute.

Diego Rubio’s equalizer kept RSL frustrated.
The whistled sounded, ending the 1-1 tie as Real Salt Lake continues searching for answers.
