NFL Scouting Combine: Former BYU RB Tyler Allgeier Speaks About Versatility

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU running back and professional prospect Tyler Allgeier spoke about his versatility during the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

This year’s Combine takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana from March 1-7.

On Thursday, March 3, Allgeier discussed his style of play and do-it-all mentality with the media.

“Not only do I play running back but I can play any position,” Allgeier stated. “I can contribute on special teams. I played special teams at BYU and I played on all phases.”

The former BYU star played on both offense and defense during his time with the Cougars.

After playing running back, Allgeier switched to linebacker before ending up as BYU’s starting running back in 2020 and 2021.

At the Scouting Combine, Allegeier was asked if he would be willing to play linebacker again.

“I’ll do whatever they ask me to do,” the draft prospect said, according to PFF’s Trevor Sikkema.

Allgeier reportedly told the media that he’d spoken informally with teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers took running back Najee Harris during the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tyler Allgeier at BYU

The Fontana, California native played for the Cougars from 2018-21.

During his time in Provo, Allgeier ran the ball 452 times for 2,899 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Allgeier set BYU’s single-season rushing record with 1,601 yards on the ground in 2021.

Tyler Allgeier at the NFL Scouting Combine

Allgeier will participate in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, March 4. Allgeier will reportedly do every workout except for the bench press.

Those drills will be televised as part of the running backs group from 2 p.m. (MDT) to 8 p.m. (MDT).
