Frank Jackson Making Most Of Opportunity As Starter

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Lone Peak star Frank Jackson is making the most of his opportunity with New Orleans. He started every game during the week and scored a career-high against the Spurs.

Former Ute Delon Wright had a good week by filling up the stat sheet for the Raptors.

Kyle Kuzma is back from a hip injury and so is LeBron James as the Lakers look to make a playoff run.

Here’s how the locals did during Week 16 of the NBA season from Wednesday, January 30 to Tuesday, February 5:

Former Utes

Kyle Kuzma – Los Angeles Lakers (27-27)

The Lakers went 1-2 during the week but they finally have LeBron James back in the lineup. Kyle Kuzma has been mentioned in trade rumors as the deadline approaches.

He had 10 points, 2 assists and 2 steals in their win over the Clippers.

Kuzma chipped in 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in the Lakers’ loss to the Warriors.

The former Ute finished the week with 12 points and 1 rebound in their 42-point loss to the Pacers.

This season, Kuzma is averaging 18.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

NEXT UP: The Lakers have three games during Week 17 with all three on the road. They will face the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks.


Jakob Poeltl – San Antonio Spurs (32-23)

It was a decent week for the Spurs with a 2-1 record. Jakob Poeltl’s minutes continue to decrease, playing less than 10 minutes in two of the three games.

The former Ute had one rebound and one assist in just four minutes as the Spurs beat the Brooklyn Nets.

Poeltl finished with two points, two rebounds, two assists and one block in seven minutes of play in their win over New Orleans.

In the Spurs’ loss to the Kings, Poeltl had eight points and six rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

The former Ute is averaging 5.1 points and 4.7 rebounds this season.

NEXT UP: The Spurs will play four games during Week 17, with all games on the road as they are in the midst of an eight game road trip. They will face Golden State, Portland, Utah and Memphis.


Delon Wright – Toronto Raptors (39-16)

Toronto won two of their three games during Week 16.

Delon Wright started the week with four points, two rebounds and one steal in the Raptors’ loss to the Bucks.

He recorded 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 20 minutes of play in their win over the Clippers.

In their win over the Sixers, Wright played 18 minutes while posting 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

The former Ute is averaging 6.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season.

NEXT UP: Toronto has three games during Week 17, starting on the road against Atlanta and New York before hosting Brooklyn.

 

Former Wildcats

Damian Lillard – Portland Trail Blazers (32-21)

The Trail Blazers had just two games during Week 16, splitting the games.

Damian Lillard had 36 points and 11 assists in the Blazers’ win over Utah.

He finished the week with 13 points, 10 assists and 3 rebounds while shooting just 2-for-10 from downtown in their loss to Miami.

Lillard was selected as a reserve for the upcoming All-Star game.

The former Wildcat is averaging 26.2 points, 6.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game this season.

NEXT UP: Portland will play three games during Week 17. They will host the San Antonio Spurs before traveling to Dallas and Oklahoma City.

 

Former High School Standouts

Frank Jackson – New Orleans Pelicans (23-31)

The Pelicans went 0-3 during the week among all the drama surrounding Anthony Davis.

The former Lone Peak star, Frank Jackson started every game of the week for the Pelicans. He posted 9 points and 6 rebounds in their loss to the Denver Nuggets.

He scored a career-high 25 points to go with his 2 rebounds and 2 assists in their loss to the Spurs, he shot 10-for-20 from the field.

Jackson recorded 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 23 minutes of play in their loss to the Indiana Pacers.

The former Blue Devil is averaging 6.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game this season.

NEXT UP: The Pelicans will play four games during Week 17, beginning at Chicago before hosting Minnesota. They will finish the week at Memphis and at home against Orlando.
