SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Weber State and current Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard reminded everyone that it was April Fools’ Day in response to a tweet saying the All-Star wanted to leave his current team.

Lillard called out the tweet in a post of his own on Wednesday, April 1.

The Twitter account @lalakersuk tweeted “According to various reports, Damian Lillard is unhappy with the front office in Portland and is seeking a move away from the Trail Blazers. The Lakers are top of his list of preferred destinations. Lillard is keen to play alongside LeBron James & Anthony Davis.”

Lillard responded saying, “Dooooo yooooouuu knooooow what todaaaaay iiiiiis? lol.”

Lillard, the Blazers, and the rest of the NBA haven’t played any games since the 2019-20 season was suspended on March 11.

He recently said that he hopes for completion of the current schedule and doesn’t want any push back to the start the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

One possibility that’s been floated into NBA rumors is for the league to start the next season in December around Christmas and following the conclusion of the majority of football season.

“For that to change, I’m definitely not a fan of that and I don’t see many guys being a fan of that,” Lillard said.

About Damian Lillard

The former Weber State guard is originally from California but has played his entire NBA career with Portland.

After starring for the Wildcats in Ogden from 2009-12, Lillard was selected by the Blazers with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award after his debut season.

Since he joined the NBA, the guard has been named an All-Star five times. He was a member of the All-NBA First Team in 2018.

Lillard’s jersey was retired by Weber State in 2017.
