SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah State standout and current Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Scales agreed to a new contract with the Windy City NFL franchise.

The deal was first reported by The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain on Friday, March 10. Later that day, Scales’ agent Kevin Gold confirmed that the veteran would return to Chicago for another season.

The league’s legal free agent negotiating period opened on Monday, March 13. NFL free agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 15.

“The Bears agreed to terms with long snapper Patrick Scales, per source,” Fishbain tweeted. “The longest-tenured Bear is back.”

“Let’s run it back Patrick Scales @p_scales. Congrats on another year with the Chicago Bears @ChicagoBears,” Gold quote tweeted Fishbain on Twitter.

Scales was slated to become an unrestricted free agent. Like in 2022, the former Utah State standout agreed to a new deal to remain with the Bears.

Last season, Scales played in all 17 of Chicago’s regular season contests. He recorded four total tackles and one solo tackle on special teams. Chicago finished the season with the worst record in the league at 3-14.

As the team with the worst record, the Bears owned the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft before trading it to the Carolina Panthers earlier in March.
