Utah Tech Drops Fifth Straight Road Game In Loss To Abilene Christian

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Tech men’s basketball team fell on the road for the fifth consecutive contest away from St. George in a close contest with the Abilene Christian Wildcats.
The Wildcats hosted the Trailblazers at Moody Coliseum in Abilene, Texas on Saturday, January 28.
Utah Tech fell to Abilene Christian, 81-76.

Cameron Gooden goes for 26 points, Noa Gonsalves added 16, but the Trailblazers come up just short.

It was the Blazers’ five straight road loss.
The contest was a tight one for much of the evening. Ultimately, the Wildcats took control of things midway through the second half and closed out a victory in the final minutes of action.
Utah Tech owned a 40-38 advantage after the opening 20 minutes of game time. The close contest continued during the first few minutes following the halftime break. Abilene Christian jumped ahead with a little over 11 minutes left to play and never gave back the lead to Utah Tech.
The Trailblazers finished shooting 51.0 percent overall and 47.8 percent from three. Despite going 0-6 on three-pointers, the Wildcats shot 47.4 percent.
Three Blazers ended up scoring in double figures. Cameron Gooden led the Trailblazers with 26 points on 10-17 shooting.

Noa Gonsalves poured in 16 points and Jacob Nicolds added 10 points.
Ali Abdou Dibba led the Wildcats with 19 points.
With the loss, the Blazers fell to a 10-12 record, including 2-7 in Western Athletic Conference contests. Utah Tech has lost seven of its last eight games. Prior to the Trailblazers’ recent skid, Utah Tech was on a six-game winning streak before entering conference action.
Utah Tech’s next game is at home against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Thursday, February 2 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
