Locals In The NFL: Saints’ Taysom Hill Hits Rashid Shaheed For 68-Yard Touchdown

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill found former Weber State standout Rashid Shaheed for a 68-yard touchdown during the New Orleans Saints‘ game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Saints hosted the Falcons at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, December 18.

With 8:17 remaining in the opening quarter, Hill unloaded a deep throw down the middle of the field. Shaheed, who got behind the defense, hauled in the pass and took it into the end zone for a 68-yard score.

The BYU-Weber State connection gave the Saints a 14-0 lead.

The touchdown capped a two-play, 73-yard drive that took only 50 seconds.

Hill was 1/1 passing for 68 yards and a touchdown. Shaheed had two catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

About Taysom Hill

Prior to his NFL career, the Idaho native was a quarterback at BYU. Hill is in his sixth NFL season, all with the Saints.

This past offseason, the ex-Cougar signal-caller transitioned from quarterback to tight end.

Prior to Week 15, Hill had thrown for 2,161 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 64.0 percent completion rate during his five seasons in the league. He also added 41 catches for 454 yards and nine touchdowns. As a runner, Hill entered the game with 282 career carries for 1,602 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Including playoffs, Taysom Hill now has 10 pass TD, 21 rush TD & 11 receiving TD.

About Rashid Shaheed

Shaheed signed with the Saints on April 30 after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The former Wildcat reportedly received one of the top contracts for an undrafted player this season.

According to Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star, Shaheed signed a deal with the Saints that included the sixth-highest amount of guaranteed money for a UDFA signing in 2022.

FCS Analyst Sam Herder reported that Shaheed’s contract featured a guaranteed base salary of $207,000 and a signing bonus of $15,000.

The San Diego, CA native finished his Weber State career as the FCS all-time leader in kickoff return touchdowns (seven).

In 53 games with the Wildcats, Shaheed set the Weber State all-time record for kickoff return average at 29.1 yards per return.

As a senior, Shaheed was named an FCS First Team All-American as both a kick returner and punt returner.

Shaheed is the only Weber State Wildcat to be named as an All-American four different times.
