SALT LAKE CITY – Cameron Gooden and the Utah Tech Trailblazers ended a two-game losing streak with a double-digit win over the Idaho Vandals.

The Vandals hosted the Blazers at ICCU Arena in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday, November 19.

Utah Tech beat Idaho, 81-71.

The Trailblazers controlled the court for much of the contest before pulling away in the second half for their second win of the season. The victory snapped a two-game skid that featured losses to Washington and Arizona.

A little more than five minutes into the afternoon action, Utah Tech took a 10-point lead at 15-5. The Trailblazers built that margin to 18 points before taking a 46-36 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

After the break, the Vandals trimmed Utah Tech’s lead to one point near the 15-minute mark. The single possession deficit was the closest Idaho would come to overtaking Utah Tech.

By the end of the half, the Blazers built their lead back to double figures and Utah Tech captured its second win of the season and its first road victory.

Utah Tech finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Trailblazers limited the Vandals to 53.8 percent overall and 26.7 percent on three-pointers. Utah Tech owned a plus-11 advantage in rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.

Five Trailblazers scored in double figures. Gooden led Utah Tech with 27 points on 8-10 field goals, including 3-4 from distance. He also had five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

Tanner Christensen, Noa Gonsalves, Jacob Nicolds, and Isaiah Pope each scored 10 points or more.

Isaac Jones led Idaho with 25 points.

With the win, the Trailblazers improved their record to 2-3 this season, including 1-3 away from home.

Utah Tech’s next game is on the road against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Friday, November 25 at 12 p.m. (MDT). ESPN Analytics gives Utah Tech a 45.1 percent chance at winning in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
