Instant Replay: Ephraim Asiata Works Out Two Months After Surviving Shooting

SALT LAKE CITY – Hunter football standout Ephraim Asiata shared a video of him working out just over two months removed from surviving a shooting in West Valley City, Utah.
Asiata was shot near Hunter High School on January 13. Two of Asiata’s teammates were killed in the shooting. Asiata was given a 1% chance of survival. Since then, he’s defied the odds and is well on the road to recovery.
Two months and one day after the shooting occurred, the young football star shared a video of him working out.

On January 24, Asiata was shown in a video that was posted on social media by his sister of Ephraim working out in his hospital bed. His father, Matt, who is a former Utah Utes and NFL running back, was seen on the floor by his son’s bed doing pushups.

The elder Asiata is a coach to Ephraim on the Hunter High football staff.
A dual-sport athlete like his father at Hunter, Asiata was beginning to take off on the recruiting trail this winter. He received a football scholarship offer to play at the University of Wisconsin. Throughout the 2021 football season, Asiata made unofficial visits to the Hill to watch the Pac-12 Champion Utah Utes in action at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Asiata has excelled at the linebacker position, garnering early recruiting attention after his sophomore season.
But football isn’t the priority right now; it’s all about continuing to defy the odds.
