Eric Weddle Going ‘Back To Old Life’ After Super Bowl

SALT LAKE CITY – If there was any question that Eric Weddle would return to the NFL for the 2022 season, the former Utah Utes All-American shut that possibility down.

Eric Weddle did an interview with SI.com and was asked about the possibility of returning to the NFL next season or going back to retirement.

“I don’t have anything left after this other than going back and doing what I was doing before,” said Weddle. “After this Super Bowl, I move on and go back to my old life and there will be no comebacks. There will not be playing – another team, another game – no, no, no, no.”

Eric Weddle’s Incredible Comeback Story

Weddle has spent over a decade in the NFL and never appeared in a Super Bowl. That changed after the Rams beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in the NFC Championship Game.

What’s crazy about this is that over two weeks ago, Weddle was at home with his family in his second year of retirement. As the Rams suffered injuries at the safety position. Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris decided to call Weddle to see if he was still in shape. The Rams signed him for the rest of the season and tested his conditioning with the former Ute on the practice squad.

Weddle was elevated before their Wildcard game and was able to play in the game. Fast forward to the NFC title game, Weddle led the Rams with nine tackles, including a tackle for loss in the win.

The Rams will battle the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, February 13. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m. MT on KSL 5 TV.
