49ers LB Fred Warner Intercepts Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes In Super Bowl

MIAMI, Fla. – Former BYU and current San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner picked off Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during Super Bowl LIV.
Warner and the Niners played the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, February 2.
The former BYU linebacker intercepted a Mahomes’ throw over the middle of the field, midway through the third quarter of the game. The Kansas City quarterback’s throw on 3rd & 12 from the Chiefs’ 39-yard line was intended for Tyreek Hill before Warner picked off the pass.

Warner’s interception gave San Francisco the ball on the Niners’ 45-yard line with 5:23 left in the quarter.
It was Warner’s first career postseason interception. During the regular season, the linebacker recorded 118 total tackles, 89 solo tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 interception, and 1 touchdown.
The turnover ended a seven-play 30-yard drive by the Chiefs that lasted 4:06.

At the time of the interception, the Niners held a 13-10 lead.
After the pick, Warner had 4 total tackles, 3 solo tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.

San Francisco took the possession, drove downfield, and Raheem Mostert punched in a one-yard yard to extend the Niners lead to 20-10 with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter.
