Raiders DB Lawson Suspended One Game For Using Helmet As A Weapon

OAKLAND, Calif. – Former Utah State and current Oakland Raiders cornerback Nevin Lawson was suspended one game for using his helmet as a weapon.
The NFL announced Lawson’s one-game suspension on Friday, January 3.
Lawson was ejected after during the final minute of the Raiders’ loss to the Denver Broncos in Oakland’s regular season finale on Sunday, December 29. He was suspended for violating NFL Rule 12, Article 17 which states that: “A player may not use a helmet that is no longer worn by anyone as a weapon to strike, swing at, or throw at an opponent.”
Raiders CB Nevin Lawson has been suspended one game without pay for using his helmet as a weapon late in the season finale against the Denver Broncos. He was ejected after the final onside kick.

In 11 games this season, Lawson recorded 24 total tackles, 20 solo tackles, and 5 pass breakups.
The former USU defensive back was suspended without pay according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Lawson becomes a free agent when the new NFL year begins in March. The DB will be required to sit out the first game of next season whether he plays for the Raiders or another team.
The Oakland cornerback finished his first season with the Raiders in 2019 after spending the first five years of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions.

Lawson was drafted out of Utah State by the Lions in 2014. He was selected with the 133rd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
