NFL Suspends Former BYU Player For Substance Abuse Violation

SALT LAKE CITY – Los Angeles Chargers cornerback and former BYU player Michael Davis has been suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substances of abuse policy.

Davis received a two-game suspension from the NFL and will be able to return for the Chargers Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Michael is a good person who made a significant mistake this past offseason for which he must be held accountable,” Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco said in a statement in response to Davis’ suspension. “He will grow from this experience and, once back, continue to represent Chargers and NFL in a positive manner.”
Davis has started in nine games for the Chargers this season and has recorded 24 tackles and five pass deflections. Last month, Davis recorded the first interception of his NFL career in the Chargers win against the Miami Dolphins.
A native of Glendale, California, Davis played at BYU as a wide receiver/cornerback from 2013-2016. He was a three-year starter in his career with the Cougars.
