SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Ahead of the Salt Lake Shootout, a fresh sheet of ice has been installed inside Vivint Smart Home Arena and the general public has been invited to help break it in.

Ice has replaced a hardwood basketball court at the home of the Utah Jazz in preparation for the Salt Lake Shootout on Saturday, September 21. This year’s Salt Lake Shootout will feature the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks.

The general public has been invited to help break in the ice during a free ice skating session on Thursday, September 19. Participants are required to have a ticket to the Shootout, their own pair of skates, and will be asked to sign a release form.

Free skating for ticketholders will take place from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Tickets for Saturday’s event start at $28 and can be purchased at Vivint Smart Home Arena, online, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

2019 will be the second year of the Salt Lake Shootout. Last year’s edition was between LA and Vancouver as well. The Kings took a 4-1 win in the 2018 edition.

This year’s version of the Salt Lake Shootout features three players with ties to the state of Utah. The Kings’ Trevor Lewis and Daniel Brickley are both natives of Utah. Canuck’s goalie, Richard Bachman is from Salt Lake City.

Lewis, a 32-year-old from Cottonwood Heights, is in the last year of his four year contract with the Kings. He has played in 618 games and scored 151 points.

Brickley, a 24-year-old Sandy native, only played in four NHL games last season. He signed a two-year deal with the Kings over the summer. During a recent episode of the Utah Puck Report, Brickley said that he’s spent the majority of the offseason putting in the work to make sure he is ready to stay on the Kings roster all season.
