Eric Weddle Suffers Head Injury In Season Debut With Rams

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former Utah Ute and current Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle suffered a head injury in the second quarter of his debut with the Rams.
Weddle was going in for a tackle on Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.
When he was attempting the tackle, McCaffrey leaped over Weddle and hit the former Utes’ helmet with his left knee.

Weddle was down on the field for several minutes and appeared to have lacerations to his head from the hit. He was helped up and carted off to the locker room by the Rams medical trainers.

After receiving treatment in the locker room, Weddle was ruled doubtful to return by the Rams public relations staff with a head laceration. At the time of the injury, Weddle had already recorded six tackles.
Weddle was also evaluated for a concussion + will not return to the game.

Before the game ended, Weddle sent a tweet that he was okay.

Weddle is in his first season with the Rams after spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Chargers before playing for the Baltimore Ravens for the last three years. On March 8, 2019, he signed a two-year contract with the Rams for $10.5 million and was recently named a team captain. The six-time Pro Bowler has been named an All-Pro five times in his career.
