Tony Finau Sets Himself Up For Weekend Run At PGA Championship
The PGA Championship was held at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, from May 15 to 18.
Finau’s first round was solid. He basically traded bogeys and birdies until ending off with a birdie to finish day one at -1. Other than shots gained on the approach, Finau’s placed outside of the top 25 in every stat in round one.
Day two looked a lot different.
Finau was top 25 in seven of the 13 performance stats. He was tied for first in sand saves, tied for 17th in overall shots gained, eighth in driving distance, and tied for 17th in driving accuracy.
However, early in his round, you wouldn’t have predicted the jump in play. He started with two bogeys in his first three holes. From there, it was nearly perfect golf.
Birdies on holes 7 and 10 brought him back to even par. A three-putt on hole 12 resulted in a bogey. He capped off his round with an eagle on 15 and a birdie on 17.
Heading into the weekend, Finau sits five strokes behind Jhonattan Vegas, who leads the field.
