SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah football had plenty of players that helped overcome a 21-point deficit at halftime to knock off Washington State in the final football game of the 2020 season.

Utah football trailed Washington State 28-7 at the break and even made a quarterback change near the end of the second quarter, going with Drew Lisk and benching Jake Bentley. Utah’s defense held the Cougars scoreless in the second half and scored 38 unanswered points to end the 2020 season with a three-game winning streak.

Here is the Crimson Corner’s five standouts from Utah’s win over Washington State.

Drew Lisk, Quarterback

Lisk’s vital performance won’t show up on the stat sheet but he had a major impact on Utah’s win over Wazzu. He was asked to come in late in the second quarter and lead the team to a comeback win and he did just that.

The former Jordan star completed 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 152 yards. Most importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over. The leadership and grit Lisk showed in the second half won’t be forgotten by Utah fans.

Ty Jordan, Running Back

For the third straight week, Ty Jordan rushed for over 100 yards. In the first half, Jordan ran the ball seven times for 48 yards and lost a fumble. That changed in the second half. In the third quarter, Jordan was up to 100 rushing yards and one touchdown after carrying the ball six more times in the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the freshman ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns to finish the game with 154 yards and three scores.

In five games this season, Jordan racked up 597 yards and 6 touchdowns, while catching 11 passes for 126 yards.

Clark Phillips III, Cornerback

The true freshman had a breakout game in the season finale. Phillips had 3 tackles a fumble recovery and a pick six. Midway through the fourth quarter, Phillips recovered a fumble and returned it 11 yards to the Washington State 13-yard line. Two plays later, Jordan ran in a touchdown.

With 2:06 remaining in the game, Phillips picked off Jayden de Laura and returned it 36-yards for the touchdown. That gave Utah a 45-28 lead and put the nail in the coffin for their third straight win. On top of that, it was Phillips’ birthday.

Phillips finished his first season with Utah recording 25 tackles (5th on team), 2 tackles for loss, one interception, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Britain Covey, Wide Receiver

After hauling in a career-high 9 receptions last week against Colorado, Britain Covey set another career mark against Washington State. The junior receiver had 6 receptions for a career-high 134 yards and one touchdown. His TD came in the second quarter when Jake Bentley connected with him for a 91-yard score.

Covey also had 25 kick return yards and 17 punt return yards and recorded 170 all-purpose yards.

He finished the season with 19 receptions (2nd on team) for a team-high 264 yards and 3 touchdowns, along with 129 punt return yards and 113 kick return yards for a combined 509 all-purpose yards. Covey also returned a punt for a touchdown.

Vonte Davis, Safety

Davis was all over the place on Saturday afternoon. He finished with 5 tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and a pass breakup. He nearly picked off de Laura but he couldn’t haul it in.

The senior finished the season with 16 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, two interceptions for 53 yards, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
