Northern Utah High School Player of the Week...

SALT LAKE CITY – The John Watson Northern Utah High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school basketball players in Northern Utah. Presented by John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our winners for week two of the season were Jackson Maw from Ogden High School and Mara Mickelson from Viewmont High School.

Northern Utah Players of the Week – Jackson Maw, Ogden & Mara Mickelson, Viewmont

Maw and the Ogden Tigers split their trio of games during the week, which were all played on the road. Maw was an offensive force in all three games as Ogden went 2-1 to improve their record to 4-2 in the early goings of the season. Maw opened the week with 22 points in a 49-31 win at Waterford Academy as they took a commanding first half lead and didn’t look back.

The Tigers then hit the road to Central Utah and the Sevier Valley Center as Maw paced them with 20 points in a hardfought 53-51 loss to Enterprise despite a strong second-half rally. He would rebound with a 28-point outing as the Tigers capped the week with a 63-44 victory over Carbon High School. They outscored the Dinos 23-5 in the third quarter to ensure the victory.

Mickelson and the Viewmont Vikings enjoyed a dominant week on the hardwoods despite playing both of their games on the road. In a 72-31 rout of East High School Mickelson was deadeye from three, making five three-pointers as she pile dup 19 points in the win. She also notched a double-double, collecting 11 rebounds and adding three assists and one steal in the win.

She followed that performance up with another strong offensive showing, scoring another 19 points in their 65-35 victory at Hunter High School. She came up a bit short in her bid to tabulate a second-straight double-double, finishing the game with eight rebounds and one block as the Vikings pushed their record to 2-1 on the year.
