KSL Sports Rewind High School Football Preseason Top 25: Nos. 20-16

SALT LAKE CITY – The High School football season is approaching and the state is filled with talented programs that are ready to battle for a state championship in the state of Utah.

Dane Stewart and Jeff Hansen of KSL Sports Rewind revealed the first five teams in their preseason top 25 ranking.

20. Bountiful Redhawks, 5A Region 6

Head Coach: Jason Freckleton, 6th season

Last Season: 13-1 overall, 6-1 Region 5, share of region title, 5A state champions

Key Returners: RB Siaki Fekitoa, LB Dawson Allsop, TE/LB Connor Mertz, RB/WR/SS Zeke Murdock

Season Opener: vs. Herriman on Friday, August 15 at 7:00 PM

19. Viewmont Vikings, 5A Region 6

Head Coach: Andru Jones, 4th season

Last Season: 8-4 overall, 4-3 Region 5, tied for 2nd in region, eliminated in quarterfinals of playoffs

Key Returners: RB Benji Tolman, DL Cooper Willoughby (Fresno State)

Season Opener: at Bonneville on Friday, August 15 at 7:00 PM

18. Park City Miners, 4A Region 8

Head Coach: Josh Montzingo, 10th season

Last Season: 10-2 overall, 5-1 Region 10, 2nd in region, eliminated in quarterfinals of playoffs

Key Returners: TE/LB Wyatt Knapp, LB Ben Souza

Season Opener: vs. Wasatch on Friday, August 15 at 7:00 PM

17. Timpview Thunderbirds, 5A Region 7

Head Coach: Travis Uale, Interim Head Coach

Last Season: 8-3 overall, 5-0 Region 7, region champions, eliminated in semifinals of playoffs

Key Returners: WR/CB Braxton Wilkerson, DL Ma’a Moe, Malosi Ilaoa

Season Opener: at West on Friday, August 15 at 7:00 PM

16. Weber Warriors, 6A Region 1

Head Coach: Mo Cannon, 2nd season

Last Season: 7-5 overall, 2-3 Region 1, 4th in region, eliminated in quarterfinals of playoffs

Key Returners: QB Carter Payne, RB Dyson Parker

Game Night Live

Each week, Jeremiah Jensen and Stevenson Sylvester broadcast one high school football game from anywhere around the state of Utah.

Jeremiah Jensen is an Emmy award-winning sports anchor and reporter who has been covering sports in Utah for KSL since October 2005.

Jensen, a native of Star Valley, Wyoming has a passion for covering the sports teams he grew up watching. He recently won a regional Emmy and UBEE awards for Best Sports Story in 2011. His work has also been recognized by the Utah Society of Professional Journalists.

Sylvester is a former Utah Utes standout linebacker who played college football from 2006-09. He was a member of the Utah team that beat Alabama in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. Sylvester was selected in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2010 NFL Draft. He went on to play five seasons in the NFL, including four with the Steelers, and one with the Buffalo Bills.

The Game Night Live Game of the Week will be at Skyridge High School, where the Falcons will host the Mountain Ridge Sentinels. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM MT on Friday, August 15. The game will be streamed on the KSL Sports app, KSLSports.com, and the KSL+ app.
