SALT LAKE CITY – Kevin Stenlund put the Utah Hockey Club on his back during a slow start, assisting and scoring on back-to-back goals to give his team a 2-1 lead over Seattle.
Utah HC (29-25-11, 69 points) embarks on a three-game road trip, beginning with the Seattle Kraken (28-34-4, 60 pts) on Friday, March 14. Utah and St. Louis started the day two points behind Calgary and Vancouver in a four-team sprint to the final Western Conference Wild Card spot.
The first-year franchise seeks its second consecutive win with 16 regular season games remaining. At 16-12-4, Utah has the tenth-best road record in the NHL this season. Seattle is 15-15-4 at home.
This forehand-backhand play by Marino is filthy.
What a sequence by Utah to take the lead. https://t.co/jDHiEXdCcO

Midway through the second period, Michael Carcone found John Marino streaking into the slot. The former New Jersey defenseman ripped a one-timer that was stopped but not controlled by Philipp Grubauer. Stenlund located the loose puck in front of the net and picked up the trash for Utah HC’s first lead.
Stenlund has two points after assisting Nick Schmaltz on Utah’s first goal earlier in the night. It is the first time he has multiple points this season in a single game. Stenlund has nine goals and eight assists. Marino earned his sixth assist, and Carcone got his ninth.
Utah started slowly, allowing Seattle to take a huge advantage in shots on goal. Utah appeared to settle in after the Kraken scored 51 seconds into the night.
