SALT LAKE CITY – Barrett Hayton and the Utah Hockey Club have been the better team through 30 minutes, taking advantage of penalties to grab a 2-0 lead over the league’s points leader.
Utah HC (34-30-12, 80 points) hosts the high-flying Winnipeg Jets (52-20-4) at Delta Center on Saturday, April 5. Winnipeg’s 108 points led the NHL. Utah begins the day fifth in the Western Conference Wild Card chase, nine points behind the second-place Minnesota Wild. St. Louis has won 11 straight games, jumping into the WC lead.
The Jets lead the season series against Utah 2-1. Utah HC downed the Jets 5-2 at Delta Center on January 20. Winnipeg won both games on home ice, claiming 5-2 and 3-0 wins. The Jets are 24-14 on the road, while Utah HC is 16-15-7 at home.

Utah’s second power-play goal came after a late first-period Mark Scheifele holding penalty put the Jets on the defensive to open the second 20.
Less than a minute into the period, Clayton Keller dropped the puck off to Dylan Guenther near the boards. Utah’s leading goals scorer sent a shot toward the net that was deflected.
Hayton located the loose puck and chipped it past the league’s Vezina Trophy favorite, Connor Hellebuyck, for a two-goal lead.
Hayton earned his 19th goal on the play. Keller reached a career milestone with his 500th assist.
The first-year franchise has outshot the league’s points leader 18-11 despite being outhit 16-5 and allowing the Jets to win nearly 60 percent of faceoffs through 29 minutes.
