Utah State Women’s Basketball Series Against New Mexico Postponed

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women’s basketball series against New Mexico has been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns with the Lobos.

The Mountain West postponed Utah State women’s basketball two-game series on Tuesday, January 5.

The conference released the following statement on Tuesday evening.

“Due to a positive COVID-19 case within the New Mexico women’s basketball program, the two-game series between the Lobos and Utah State, originally slated for January 7 and 9, has been postponed,” the statement read. “The rescheduled dates will be announced once finalized by the Mountain West and both institutions.”

It’s the second and third games this season that has been postponed for the Aggies. The first game was against San Jose State that was scheduled for Wednesday, December 23 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Utah State is coming off of a two-game home sweep against Air Force with a 70-66 win on New Year’s Eve. Then they picked up a 61-55 victory over the Falcons on Saturday, January 2.

The Aggies are 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play this season. They have wins over Montana, UTEP and Air Force twice. Their losses came against Idaho State, Seattle University (in OT), BYU and San Jose State.

The women’s basketball team in Logan is in their first season under head coach Kayla Ard. She is the ninth women’s basketball head coach in school history. Ard comes to Logan after serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2017-20 at Denver before taking over as the interim head coach for 11 games in 2020.

Utah State’s next two-game series is scheduled for Thursday, January 14 and Saturday, January 16 at San Diego State.
