USU Coach Calhoun Gives Update On ‘Really Good’ Non-Conference Schedule

LOGAN, Utah – Are the Utah State Aggies on the verge of adding the Memphis Tigers as a non-conference home-and-home opponent?
For a program always on the lookout for resume-building non-league games, the reported series would be a massive draw for the USU hoops program.
Jon Rothstein first reported the news in early June, and Utah State head coach Jerrod Calhoun all but confirmed the news during a media scrum on Tuesday, June 24.

“The formula is four to five quad ones, quad twos at our level, non-league,” Calhoun said of how he plots out a schedule.
He continued, “Getting the Memphis Tigers and Coach (Penny) Hardaway, great program to come in here to Logan.”
Rothstein reports the Tigers will travel to Logan for a Valentine’s Day date on February 14, 2026.

Former NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway is 158-68 as a head coach at his alma mater. Hardaway has led Memphis to seven consecutive 20-win seasons.

The second-year Aggie head coach expects to announce Utah State’s full non-conference slate in the coming days.

“There’s going to be a really, really good schedule ahead of us,” Calhoun stated. “Great games early, like really early. So we’ve got to have a great summer. We’ve gotta understand and educate our new guys. The 11 non-conference games are going to be really, really important., They’re going to be here before you know it.
