BYU Basketball Lands First 2020 Commit In JUCO Spencer Johnson

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball received a commitment from a well traveled guard in Spencer Johnson.
Johnson was on an official visit to BYU this weekend and made his commitment to the Cougars publicly known on social media.

The former American Fork High standout, Johnson is a 6-5 guard who can shoot the three. He’s had a unique path in his collegiate career. After graduating high school, Johnson served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Italy.
After completing his mission, Johnson enrolled at Weber State. Six months after enrolling in Randy Rahe’s program, Johnson entered the transfer portal. Once in the portal, Johnson committed to Mark Pope at Utah Valley University, then changed course and enrolled in Salt Lake Community College instead.
Johnson will have three years to play three when he enrolls at BYU next season. He is a redshirt freshman this season for the Bruins.
This is BYU’s first commitment in the class of 2020. National Letter of Intent for college basketball begins next month on November 13th and runs through November 20th. Johnson is expected to sign with the Cougars during the early signing period.
Mark Pope has flexibility with next year’s roster in terms of scholarship allotment. The Cougars have five seniors on this year’s roster that will give Pope and his staff the flexibility to add a lot of new faces over the next year into their program.
