PROVO, Utah – The sudden development of BYU football and Coastal Carolina squaring off in a battle of undefeated teams was not a dream. BYU is on their way to Myrtle Beach to take on the Chanticleers.

A little over 24 hours after officially announcing the game, BYU boarded a Delta flight from Provo airport set for the program’s first-ever trip to the state of South Carolina.

BYU is scheduled to arrive at Myrtle Beach around 3 p.m. (EST)/1 p.m. (MST) on Friday.

This game between BYU and Coastal Carolina came to be in a hurry. Tom Holmoe didn’t become aware of the possible Coastal Carolina matchup until Wednesday. Then the wheels started to churn.

On Thursday, Liberty’s medical experts had the Flames pull out to COVID issues on their roster. Around 7:15 a.m. (MST) that morning, Liberty athletic director Ian McCaw called BYU’s Tom Holmoe to wish him and his team the best in the national spotlight game.

It’s all came together in a hurry, and BYU had the pros in place to make sure the Cougars would be able to make the cross-country trek to the east coast.

“We have people that deal with logistics. Peter Esera is from BYU travel. They’ve done everything for us for years and years. They’re pros. I haven’t thought twice about it. They’ll take care of it; they’ll handle it. I can’t control that (travel). I just hope that truck gets there on time. But that’s how it goes. If not, we’ll borrow Coastal’s second pairs of pads,” said Holmoe jokingly.

Speaking of that truck, traveling through the air is a little bit easier than driving across the country in a semi-truck. The BYU football equipment truck left at 9:10 p.m. (MST) on Wednesday and is expected to arrive in Conway, South Carolina, around 2 p.m. (ET). Giving the equipment team enough time to set up BYU’s locker room at Brooks Stadium.

Gameday is almost here.
