Game Six Between Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets Officially Postponed

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Game six of the first round of the NBA Playoffs between the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets has been postponed.

The postponement comes one day after the Milwaukee Bucks opted to sit out their game five meeting with the Orlando Magic to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Three games were postponed from Wednesday’s schedule including the Bucks and Magic game. All three games scheduled for Thursday, including the Jazz and Nuggets game six have been postponed.

The Jazz hold a 3-2 series lead over the Nuggets after losing Game 5 on Tuesday, 117-107 after Utah won the three straight games of the series after Denver took Game 1.

Playoffs Will Continue

While Thursday’s games have been postponed, the NBA does plan to continue its season according to reports.

“The resumption of playoff games could come as soon as Friday,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “But there is expected to be a return to this season by the weekend, sources tell ESPN.”

Wednesday night NBA players gathered to discuss the Bucks protest and whether to proceed with the rest of the season. According to The Atheltic’s Shams Charania, both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers voted to boycott the remainder of the NBA season, while the 12 other teams remaining in the bubble voted to continue the games.

According to Yahoo Sports Chris Haynes, Lakers start LeBron James changed his position from last night’s vote, “relaying it was in their best interest to finish out the season.”

The players met again Thursday morning, and are planning an additional meeting later in the afternoon with representatives from each team.

Utah Jazz Statement

The Jazz issued a statement condemning violence towards the Black community in light of the Bucks decision to protest game five of their opening-round series with the Magic.

“We support and join with the National Basketball Association, its teams, the players and the Utah Jazz in condemning social injustice and violence against Black people,” THe statement read. “Our family and organization remain fully committed to and focused on building a country that is equitable, just and safe. We also echo Jacob Blake’s mother’s plea to ‘use our hearts, our love and our intelligence to work together to show the rest of the world how humans are supposed to treat each other.’”

The NBA’s Board of Governors also met Thursday morning to lay out plans in light of the recent developments inside the NBA bubble.
