Daughter Of Former Jazz Fan Favorite Is Nation’s Top Recruit

SALT LAKE CITY — Kate Harpring, the nation’s top high school basketball recruit in the class of 2026, committed to North Carolina over the weekend.
Harpring, a 5-foot-10 point guard from Marist School in Atlanta, Georgia, chose the Tar Heels over UCLA, USC, and UConn.
She ranks No. 1 nationally according to 24/7 Sports and No. 4 in ESPN’s Top 100 recruiting rankings.

Kate Harpring Commits To UNC
As a junior, Kate Harpring earned Georgia Player of the Year honors after averaging 32.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 5.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
She wears jersey No. 15, the same number her father, Matt Harpring, wore during his basketball career.

North Carolina has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the past five seasons but has not advanced beyond the Sweet 16.
Matt Harpring’s Career With The Jazz
Matt Harpring played for the Utah Jazz beginning in 2002, contributing alongside John Stockton and Karl Malone.
In his first season with the team, the forward averaged a career-high 17.6 points per game that season and finished second in voting for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

Over seven seasons with the Jazz, Harpring averaged 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.7 steals per game.
KSL Sports ranked Harpring No. 29 on its list of the top 50 players in Jazz history. After retiring, the Georgia Tech product spent 11 seasons as the team’s television color analyst.
