Jordan Clarkson Hits Clutch Three-Pointer For Jazz Late In Regulation

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson hit a clutch three-pointer late in regulation to give them the lead against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Jazz were down by one with 15.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Jordan Clarkson hit a big triple against his former team. Joe Ingles had the ball at the top of the three-point line when Clarkson came up to set a screen. It turned out to be a decoy screen as Clarkson slipped past Ingles towards the angle three-point line rather than actually setting the screen.

When Clarkson slipped the screen, he went to the right angle and Ingles hit him for a wide open three-pointer to put the Jazz up by two points with 9.2 seconds left.

After the triple, the Lakers called a timeout to advance the ball to halfcourt. When LA had the ball, point guard Dennis Schroder was able to get to the basket with ease and made the layup to tie the game. Utah didn’t have any timeouts remaining and was forced to shoot a deep three but it missed and went to overtime.

In the extra period, the Lakers took over and outscored the Jazz 17-5 to pick up a 127-115 win. Clarkson finished with 27 points on 11-of-27 shooting from the field and 5-for-15 from the three-point line. He got the start as did Ersan Ilyasova and Joe Ingles. Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors did not play.

The Jazz dropped their record to 42-15 on the season. They will have a rematch with the Lakers in Los Angeles on Monday, April 19 at 8 p.m. MDT on ESPN.
