SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz went on a big run at the start of the second quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers that stretched their lead from 4 to 13.

The Jazz had a 22-18 lead over the Cavaliers at the end of the first quarter. Cleveland’s Lamar Stevens threw down an alley-oop dunk from Cedi Osman to start the second quarter. Then the run for the Jazz started.

Mike Conley found Georges Niang for a layup. Then Niang made a three-pointer to extend the lead to 27-20. Jordan Clarkson knocked down a triple on his former team to make it a 10-point lead. Finally, Royce O’Neale made a three-pointer on an assist from Donovan Mitchell. The Cavaliers took a timeout after the Jazz went up 33-20 with 7:03 left in the second quarter.

Damyean Dotson stopped the run for a minute with an 18-foot jumper before Clarkson made another three-pointer. After Dotson scored again, Derrick Favors found Bojan Bogdanovic for a wide open reverse layup.

During that stretch, Miye Oni was fantastic on defense as he stopped a Cavaliers fastbreak with four offensive players.

Utah finished the second quarter strong by outscoring the Cavaliers 27-18 and took a 49-36 lead into the locker room. Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz with 14 points off the bench. Mitchell added 8 points, while Niang scored 7 points. O’Neale and Bogdanovic each had 5 points. Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley scored 4 points apiece.

The Jazz made 10 three-pointers in 22 attempts.

Damyean Dotson had 11 points to lead the Cavaliers. Cedi Osman chipped in 10 points and 4 assists. Javale McGee nearly had a double-double in the first half with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

This is the last game of their now-six game road trip since the contest against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, January 13 was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with the Wizards. The Jazz will head back to Salt Lake City after the trip to Cleveland.
