ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite a career performance by Donovan Mitchell, the Utah Jazz ran out of gas in overtime, losing Game 1, 135-125 to the Denver Nuggets.

Mitchell recorded a career-high 57 points along with 9 rebounds and 7 assists on 19 of 33 shooting from the field, 6 for 15 from the three-point line and a perfect 13 of 13 from the free throw line.

Jamal Murray led the Nuggets with 36 points and 9 assists on 6 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Mitchell Sets Franchise Playoff Record

Donovan Mitchell set a franchise playoff record for most points scored in a game with 57 points.

Through four quarters, Mitchell had 51 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists on 17 of 28 shooting from the field, 5 for 12 from the three-point line and a perfect 12 for 12 from the free throw line.

The previous record for the Jazz was a 50-point performance by Karl Malone against the Seattle Supersonics in the 2000 NBA Playoffs.

Per Stat Head, Mitchell is the youngest player to score 50 points or more in a playoff game since Michael Jordan scored 63 points against the Celtics.

Mitchell had a slow start to the game with just two points in the opening quarter. He had a significantly better second quarter, posting 17 points, going to the halftime break with 19 points.

The third quarter was decent offensively with 10 points for Mitchell. The fourth quarter, Mitchell took over, finishing with 22 points in the fourth quarter. In overtime, Mitchell had six points.

Ingles, Gobert, Clarkson Have Big Performances

Mitchell wasn’t the only Jazz player to have a huge performance. He had help from Joe Ingles, who recorded 19 points and 5 of 12 from the perimeter. Rudy Gobert added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jordan Clarkson contributed 18 points off the bench.

Utah shot 47 percent from the field, 34 percent from downtown and 17 of 23 from the free throw line.

For Denver, Nikola Jokic added 29 points and 10 boards, Jerami Grant chipped in 19 points off the bench.
