SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Welcome to KSL Sports Game Night as the Utah Jazz travel to face the Charlotte Hornets on the second night of back to back road games.

The Jazz have won 13 of 14 games heading into the contest, while Charlotte had their three-game winning streak snapped by the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday

The Jazz own the best record in the NBA at 17-5 while the Hornets are 10-12 on the season.

Follow this page throughout the night for updates on pregame quotes from the coaches, starting lineups, and thought and highlights throughout the game.

Pregame Availability

Before the game, Hornets coach James Borrego gave a simple but concise breakdown on why the Jazz offense has been so effective this season.

“They put a lot of pressure on your defense to take away the rim and the three,” Borrego said. “And I don’t know many teams that can take away both the rim and the three from them. There are very few teams that can.”

This is the entire crux of the Jazz season. They will win the majority of their games throughout the year because teams have to pick one or the other. What happens in the playoffs when they run into a team (The Lakers) that theoretically can do both?

Jazz coach Quin Snyder meanwhile broke down the Hornets offense which leads the league in assist percentage.

“Those are catch and shoot threes, it shows that they have multiple playmakers,” Snyder said. “I think passing is infectious. Because they get out in transition and force some turnovers and get steals out of their defense, those usually end up in attempts at the rim or kick aheads and catch and shoot plays either at the rim or behind the line.”

The Jazz wouldn’t shy away from an uptempo game but must control their turnovers which have been an issue at times this season.

Starting Lineups

Hornets Starting Lineup

Jazz Starting Lineup

First Quarter

  • Jazz have taken three awful shots and have a bad turnover in their first five possessions. Rudy Gobert got a dunk to start the game, but haven’t had a good look since.
  • Hornets jump out to an 11-2 start right away.
  • Quin Snyder wants to see the Jazz run but this pace is bad especially on the second night of a back to back.
  • Hornets are flying all around the floor and the pass so willingly the Jazz can’t catch up. They need to slow down.

  • Georges Niang is about a 30 percent three-point shooter so far this season. Seemed like he had a week or so where everything was going in, but it’s dipped again.
  • He’s 2 of his last 16

Second Quarter

  • The Jazz opened the second on a 10-3 run and built their lead to as much as 11, but the Hornets have clawed back to 6.
  • The Hornets pace with LaMelo and Hayward on the floor is really good. Without them, the Jazz can do whatever they want.
  • The Jazz hit eight threes in the second quarter and turn the Hornets 12 point lead into a 15 point deficit at the half.
  • The three-point shooting is a leak, that turns into a stream, and then a flood within a few minutes. Most teams can’t stop it, including the Hornets.

Third Quarter

  • Mitchell started the game 0-3, then went 6-7 and leads the Jazz with 19 points.
  • This is another good example of the Jazz learning how to fight back after getting punched in the mouth. Once the Jazz figured out what the Hornets were doing, they adjusted in-game took off.

  • Bogdanovic has made his last four three-point attempts, it’s pretty safe to say he’s fully back. He’s got 22 points on 8-11 shooting.
  • A bad close to the quarter trims the Jazz lead to just 16. Hornets score 10 of the last 12 points to cut into the lead. Big run for Bojan Bogdanovic who scores 14 points in the third.
  • Jazz up 106-90 after three quarters.

Fourth Quarter

  • After getting cut earlier in the game above his eye, Mike Conley didn’t reenter the game late in the third and didn’t come out in the fourth quarter.
  • Jazz confirmed he’s in the training room but haven’t said what the injury is.
  • You get a sense of how important Conley is to set the Jazz pace.

  • Meanwhile, the Hornets are keeping the game right around a 10 point deficit, but the Jazz seem to answer with a big three every time.
  • The end up with 26 made threes, a new franchise record and win 138-121.
