Indianapolis Colts Legendary Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne Grew Up A Utah Jazz Fan

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In an interview that was posted on Twitter, future hall of fame wide receiver Reggie Wayne said that he grew up a big Utah Jazz fan.

His fandom for the Jazz started with Karl Malone being from his home state of Louisiana.
“Karl Malone was from Louisiana,” Wayne said. “He and John Stockton had something with the pick and roll where you knew what was going to happen and you could not stop it.”

The conversation sparked when Wayne and other individuals were talking about The Last Dance documentary that is airing on ESPN about the Chicago Bulls dynasty with Michael Jordan. The 10-part series ends on Sunday, May 17 with the final two episodes.
Wayne thought back in the late 90’s that Malone needed to win a ring to be in the discussion as the best power forward to ever play the game.
“I said it back then, if he (Malone) doesn’t get a ring, he will never be in discussion as one of the best power forwards of all-time,” Wayne stated. “People forget that Karl Malone is number two all-time in scoring. Two times from keeping the mailman from winning a ring was Michael Jordan.”
Jordan didn’t just stop the Jazz from winning championships, he stopped other really good teams and players from winning a ring.
“I saw him (Michael Jordan) stop potential dynasties whether it was the Utah Jazz, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Charles Barkley with Phoenix, he kept so many of the top 50 players of all-time from getting a ring,” Wayne mentioned.
The New Orleans, Louisiana native spent all 14 seasons of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts from 2001-15.
