SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz announced that Donovan Mitchell will miss the final three games of the regular season with the right ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last 13 games.

Mitchell originally injured the ankle on April 16 against the Indiana Pacers and has been getting weekly evaluations since.

The Jazz are 8-5 since Mitchell’s injury and had won five straight games before Monday’s loss to the Golden State Warriors.

“In advance of Utah’s final three games of the regular season, Donovan Mitchell was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff on Tuesday for a sprained ankle he sustained on April 16. He continues to make progress towards a return but will be out for Utah’s final three contests,” the team tweeted.

“Mitchell will not travel with the Jazz for the team’s upcoming road trip and will remain in Salt Lake City to continue treatment. He will be re-evaluated prior to the start of the NBA Playoffs.”

Here’s what the remaining schedule looks like for the Jazz entering the final six days of the regular season.

Utah Jazz:

Wednesday: vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Friday: @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Sunday: @ Sacramento Kings

The Jazz own a 1.5 game lead over the Phoenix Suns with just three games remaining in the regular season. In case of an even record, the Suns would own the top spot in the West by way of the tie-breaker.

The regular season concludes on Sunday, May 16, but the Jazz won’t be in action again until May 22.

The 7-10 seeds in both conferences will compete in a play-in tournament at the conclusion of the regular season to decide the final two seeds in each conference. The tournament will run from May 18-21 with the postseason starting the following day.

“No one wants to put him out there until he’s ready, and that’s the perspective that everybody’s approaching with,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. “Donovan’s health is obviously the most important thing and he’s working hard every day to get himself to a point where he can play.”

Mitchell was in the midst of a career year for the Jazz before the ankle injury. The guard was averaging a personal best 26.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds for the Jazz while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line.
