SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell had 36 points to help the Utah Jazz to a big 122-108 win over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night at Vivint Arena.

The Jazz are now tied with the 1996-97 team for the best start in franchise history with their win over the Celtics. Utah has won five straight and 16 of their last 17.

On top of the 36 points from Mitchell, he dished out 8 assists on 12-of-23 shooting from the field and 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. Joe Ingles added 24 points and 6 assists on 5-of-11 from the three-point line. Rudy Gobert notched a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Bojan Bogdanovic posted 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Jordan Clarkson scored 13 points off the bench. For Boston, Jaylen Brown led the way with 33 points and 8 boards. Jayson Tatum chipped in 20 points, while Daniel Theis scored all 15 points from the perimeter.

Celtics Get Hot From Perimeter In First Half

Boston had a tremendous start to the game when they made 6 of their first 7 three-pointers to jump out to an 8-point lead. They ended up with 7 triples in the opening quarter, missing just 5 attempts. The Jazz shot just 3-of-14 from the perimeter in the first 12 minutes of the game. Despite the poor shooting, Utah trailed by just three points at the end of the first.

The second quarter was better for the Jazz, making 4 threes in the quarter on 9 attempts. Royce O’Neale knocked down two triples, along with one from both Joe Ingles and Donovan Mitchell. Boston shot 37 percent from the floor in the second. Utah took a 48-47 lead into the locker room. Jaylen Brown was the bright spot for Boston with 20 points in the half. Mitchell and Ingles combined for 23 points.

Jazz Pick It Up In The Third Quarter With Big Run

Mitchell and Bogdanovic sparked a 15-4 run in the third quarter. Before the run, Boston was up 54-53. Mitchell scored 7 of the 15 points on the run, while Bogdanovic had the other 8 points. That gave the Jazz a 68-58 advantage.

After missing his first six attempts from beyond the arc, Jordan Clarkson broke the spell with a contested corner three-pointer and he got fouled.

The Jazz outscored the Celtics 42-32 in the third quarter, including 14 points from Mitchell. Boston went on a mini run and pulled to within 4 points midway through the fourth. Donovan Mitchell hit a big triple in the corner to put the Jazz up 7 with over 4 minutes remaining.

He also broke Grant Williams’ ankles and knocked down a big three.

Another three by Mitchell with 2:07 left in the game sealed the deal for the Jazz.

Utah improved their NBA-best record to 20-5 on the season. They will return to Vivint Arena for the second game of their four-game homestand to take on the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, February 12 at 7 p.m. MST on AT&T SportsNet.
