Vancouver Whitecap Player & Real Salt Lake Fan Exchange Gifts, Touching Conversation Surrounding Diabetes

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The conclusion of the Vancouver and Real Salt Lake game at Rio Tinto Stadium on Friday, June 18 ended with a touching moment between Whitecaps midfielder Andy Rose and a young RSL fan named Lucas.
Rose, 31, walked over to the grandstands after the final whistle before going down the tunnel to the Vancouver locker room and met Lucas who was accompanied by his dad.
“Do you have one too?” Rose asked. “No way! Oh, you got a Dexcom,” he added.
“This is an Omnipod, he’s got a Dexcom on his butt,” Lucas’ father responded.
“I want to get Omnipod,” Rose admitted.

The two then shared a touching moment when they exchanged gifts. Lucas received a Vancouver Whitecaps kit with the words “Type 1 United Pal” on the back while Rose was gifted an RSL scarf.
“You’re my teammate,” Rose told Lucas.
Both Rose and Lucas have type one diabetes and require monitors to ensure insulin delivery. The devices used by both Rose and Lucas are a waterproof insulin pod that delivers insulin without the need for tubes or injections.

RSL will travel to Seattle in a midweek clash scheduled for Wednesday, June 23. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. and can be streamed for free via the KSL Sports and KSL 5 TV apps or on KSL Sports dot com.
While Vancouver will host the LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m.
