SANDY, Utah – Two-time MLS All-Star Diego Luna was Johnny on the spot when a loose ball squirted free in front of goal. Luna used the opening to give Real Salt Lake a 1-0 lead over Club América.

Luna’s first attempt was deflected, but the defense couldn’t corral the rebound inside the six-yard box. Luna’s momentum took him in for an easy 16th-minute goal.
Luna’s goal was the ninth shot combined to open the night.
Real Salt Lake vs Club América
Club América entered last year’s Leagues Cup as the highest-ranked club in the competition, earning a bye straight to the knockout stage.
América made their way all the way to the quarter-finals of the single elimination tournament with wins over Atlas F.C. and St. Louis City SC before falling to the Colorado Rapids in penalties.
